Hyundai - Vinashin Shipyard Co., Ltd. (HVS), a joint venture
between Hyundai Group in Korea (70%), represented by Hyundai
Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd. (HMD) of Korea, and Vietnam Shipbuilding
Industry Corporation (VINASHIN) of Vietnam (30%) started
its ship repair, conversion and shipbuilding business
in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, on 100 ha of land on 26th
April, 1999.
Managed by HMD, one of the most reliable shop repair,
conversion and newbuilding shipyards in the world, HVS
has achieved successful operations so far combining about
2,700 members of abundant and skilled labor force, including
90 Korea staff and experts from HMD, and 1,000 workers
of subconstractors, with the advantages of the abundant
experiences in ship repairs, conversions and new buildings,
offshore contracting, and highly advanced technology and
management of both HMD and Hyundai Heavy Industries Co.,
Ltd. (HHI), one of the strongest contractors in shipbuilding,
offshore and many other heavy industry projects and a
member of the share holders of HVS.
Located on the main trading routes between Far East and
South East Asia, HVS offers very attractive and economical
cost reduction opportunities for repairs and conversions
to our worldwide clients, Especially, the repairs at HVS
of tankers trading to Far East will surely be one of the
most economical solutions of shipowners, thanks to the
ideal locations of HVS and very competitive prices for
both repairs and tank cleaning.
The vision of HVS is extended to make ourselves one of
the best shiprepair, shipbuilding and offshore fabrication
shipyards in the world in the nearest future, with the
reservation of additional 1,000 ha of land for future
expansion. To realize the vision, HMD will guarantee marketing,
sales and technical supports for the repairs and newbuildings
for HVS, including engineering, experts, equipment, etc.,
while HHI will also remain as a firm supporter for HVS
offshore projects.
